EU Antitrust Issues Resolved by Broadcom’s Interoperability Solutions for VMware Deal – Sources

The Commission has been investigating whether the deal would reduce competition in the market for virtualization software, which is used to run multiple operating systems on a single server. Broadcom has argued that the deal would not reduce competition as the two companies do not compete directly.

The Commission has the power to block the deal or demand concessions from Broadcom to address its concerns. The company has offered to make its products interoperable with VMware’s, the sources said.

The Commission is expected to decide whether to accept the remedies or open a full-scale investigation into the deal. If it opens an in-depth probe, it would have until October 16 to decide whether to approve the deal.
