The Welsh National Opera Orchestra is a renowned opera orchestra that also performs a variety of orchestral music. This season, they will be joined by international conductor Tomáš Hanus, who will make his debut in La Scala in Milan and Staatsoper in Munich. Audiences in the Czech Republic can watch a live broadcast of the opening concert on a large screen at the traditional festival venue in Kampa Park.
This year’s artist-in-residence is Antoine Tamestit, one of the most sought-after violists of our time. He will perform at four different concerts, including a special event at Saint Agnes Convent and three concerts at the Dvořák Hall of Rudolfinum.
Other highlights of this year’s Prague Spring include a concert of Czech Philharmonic conducted by American Composer John Adams, Essener Philharmoniker with their Czech music director Tomáš Netopil, Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra with Daniel Harding, and the closing concert with Christoph Eschenbach. The main focus on contemporary music will take part at Prague Offspring, which will feature world premieres of works commissioned by the festival.
