Ukraine’s First Lady Seeks Nonlethal Military Assistance During Seoul Trip

Ukraine’s First Lady, Olena Zelenska, visited South Korea on Tuesday to request nonlethal military aid to help fight the ongoing war with Russia. President Yoon Suk Yeol of South Korea pledged more nonmilitary aid to help Ukraine rebuild, including $130 million in low-interest loans and $100 million in humanitarian aid. Ms. Zelenska thanked Mr. Yoon for the support and asked for nonlethal military equipment, including tools for mine detection and removal. South Korea has so far resisted calls to send its artillery shells to Ukrainian forces, but Mr. Yoon indicated last month that Seoul might be willing to consider sending military aid. Ms. Zelenska has become a prominent emissary for her husband’s administration, traveling abroad to advocate for support from Kyiv’s allies.
