Suspension of Discussion on Government Plan to Strengthen Restrictions on Media Ownership

The debate on the proposed amendment has been ongoing for months, with the opposition arguing that the law would limit freedom of speech and the government arguing that it would prevent the concentration of media ownership in the hands of a few powerful individuals.

The debate has been postponed until mid-June, when the lower house is expected to vote on the proposal. If passed, the amendment would be the first major change to the media ownership law in the Czech Republic in over a decade. It remains to be seen whether the amendment will be approved and what impact it will have on the media landscape in the country.
